Lots of activity this week, starting with ‘Meet the Author’ last Saturday. You can find out how that went in ‘Out & About with ‘The Village’ ‘ below. In it I’ve answered a lot of the general questions which I was asked on the day and the ‘Village’ specific questions have been included o the ‘Ask the Author’ page of The Village web-site.
I’ve also been to the Singer Sargent exhibition currently at the National Portrait Gallery in London and there’s a post about the exhibition entitled ‘Portraits of artists & friends…’.
If you’re south London-based and like supporting independent book shops, Clapham Books, at 26, the Pavement, Clapham, SW4 0JA is now stocking ‘The Village’. Seeing it sitting on the book shop shelf (between Martin Amis and Kate Atkinson) gave me quite a thrill. I will be at a Literary Evening event at Clapham Books from 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 16th July, so come along if you’re free.
By then, ‘On the Frontier’ will be in production. This week sees the start of a competition to find a cover design for that book. You can follow the contest, comment on the designs submitted and even state your preferences at 99designs. The first stage – submission by artists and designers – lasts until Sunday.
One further item, we’ll be posting a guest blog in the next week or so, from the eastern Mediterranean island of Lesbos ( it will be in the ‘From a Foreign Field’ category ). I hope that this will be the first of many.
